The Dutch Hospitality Industry in 2025: Slight decline in number of locations
The year 2025 has come to an end, and we look back at developments in the Dutch hospitality market based on figures from the Roamler database. In this article, we compare the number of locations at the end of 2024 with those at the end of 2025, broken down into restaurants, bars/cafés, hotels, and fast-food outlets.
Total number of Hospitality locations
The total number of hospitality venues (the aforementioned segments combined) declined slightly from 38,633 in 2024 to 38,234 in 2025. This represents a decrease of approximately 1%, indicating stabilization after several years of growth.
Restaurants
Restaurants remain the largest category, but here too we see a small decline: from 17,666 to 17,499 locations. This may point to a changing market with a greater focus on quality over quantity.
Bars/Cafés
The number of bars and cafés decreased from 5,604 to 5,494. The decline is limited but fits within the trend of changing consumer behavior, where reduced alcohol consumption and at-home consumption are gaining ground.
Hotels
Hotels showed a slight decrease from 2,578 to 2,554. Despite a stable tourism market, competition from short-stay options and alternative accommodations appears to be continuing.
Fast-Food
Fast-food outlets remain a strong segment, but also experienced a small contraction: from 12,785 to 12,687. This may be related to rising costs and growing demand for healthier alternatives.
Conclusion
The Dutch hospitality market experienced a slight decline in the number of locations in 2025. Restaurants and fast-food outlets in particular saw small decreases, while hotels and cafés remained relatively stable. The market appears to be adapting to changing consumer preferences and economic conditions.
